Why should I register for a membership?
Online membership registration is a new scheme of the City University Student Union. Last year this was all done on paper… very lovely. This year they decided to catch up with the ‘modern trend’.
The registration fee of £3 only, is used to fund the running of the prayer room by the SU and the university and a portion of it is also reclaimed by the ISoc (from the Student Union) to fund the ISoc acitivities… i.e. external speakers, refreshments during courses, discounts, grand annual dinners etc.
Without these monies the ISoc would end up with yearly financial losses and its da’wah projects would come to a standstill. In simple words, calling disbelievers to the Path of Allaah and guiding the Muslims towards perfecting their eemaan in this university would diminish. Only the munafiqoon (hypocrites) would love for this to happen.
Allaah azza wa jall says in His Uncreated Speech (interpretation of the meaning):
“O you who believe! Spend of that with which We have provided for you, before a Day comes when there will be no bargaining, nor friendship, nor intercession. And it is the disbelievers who are the Zaalimoon (wrongdoers)”
[Al-Qur'aan - Soorat al-Baqarah (002:254)]
One can attend the events and courses and take part in all ISoc activities without becoming a ‘member’. There is no need for registration.
The only reason you are registering for an ISoc membership is to make the ISoc stand out from the other societies boasting the most members and to enable it to give da’wah and call to the Straight Path through various projects.
The messenger of Allaah (saaws) said through an authentic narration: “There is no day on which the people get up but two angels come down and one of them says, ‘O Allaah, give in compensation to the one who spends (in charity),’ and the other says, ‘O Allaah, destroy the one who withholds.’”
[Bukhaaree and Muslim]
The Oldies
ISoc members of old (particularly the ones who enjoy and benefit from the free courses provided for by the ISoc)… you have to register as well. Student society memberships expire every year and they must be renewed.
YOU take advantage of the courses and activities that the ISoc provides you with, every year, for free and it will be really ungrateful of you, if you do not spare a few minutes and a few pennies to help it progress. If the old members renew their membership again, we will reach the 300 member target ‘in no time’ inshaa’Allaah.
[Note: The ISoc is run on a voluntary basis without any paid staff.]
REGISTERING WITH THIS WEBSITE DOES NOT COUNT AS MEMBERSHIP. YOU MUST REGISTER WITH www.culsu.co.uk TO APPLY FOR A MEMBERSHIP… MORE FOLLOWS ! ! !
Competition: How it works
Basically you register with the Student Union and apply for a membership with the ISoc (using the following steps).
Then we get the list of all the people who have gained an official membership.
If the number of members reaches the intended target of 300 by the deadline (31.10.2009), then we will write each name on a piece of paper, fold them up, and pick a random one out of the hat and that’s the winner! So please register asap and tell your friends to do so too.
What’s the prize? Keep on reading and you will find out inshaa’Allaah… it’s BIG.
The Dummy’s Guide to Registration [4 sum1 wid no clue wot-so-eva]
Yes, it looks like it will take hours to do… but we made it long… the request was to make it for someone who is literally a “dummy” - no offense; so had to include every little detail. All in all it should not take more than 10-15 mins inshaa’Allaah. Spare some time for the sake of Allaah!
If there’s any mistake in the following guide… do let us know!
- Go to http://www.culsu.co.uk/
- Click ‘Register’ (it should be on the right sidebar)
- In the registration page,
a) Choose ‘Student’ as account type.
b) Choose an Username of your liking (take the good ones while you can!) and a very good password
c) Type in your REAL name… not your kunya (i.e. Aboo Orangello or Umm Naynay)
d) Press ‘Continue’
e) Enter REAL date of birth, email (Example: thug4lyf_786@email.com), gender (if you select ‘other’, pleeeeeease stay away from me), your REAL course start and predicted end date and the place where you officially spend the night.
f)Then finally click complete! - Now log into your personal email account (the one you entered for registration) and check your inbox (or spam/junk folders) and click the link inside the email that CULSU sent you to complete your registration.
- Now that you are registered to their website, ‘Log In’ to your new account with CULSU using your username and password.
- Having logged in, click on ‘My Account’ (on the right sidebar).
- Now click on ‘My Purchases’.
- Then choose, ‘Online Memberships’.
- Click ‘Add More Memberships’.
- Now enter all the required information (i.e. Name, address, date of birth, gender etc.).
- Click ‘Next’ (if you want to enrol for any other services with SU). Otherwise, click the ‘CULSU Clubs & Societies’ bar on the top panel.
- Select the ISLAMIC society (scroll down a bit to find it). (Remember City University Islamic Society is the ONLY society which strictly adheres to what is required to believe in the Oneness of Allaah, whilst adopting the Sunnah of His messenger (saaws) as related to us from his noble companions (raa), about whom Imaam at-Tahaaweeh (r) said that “… and love of them is part of deen (i.e. Islaam), eemaan (belief), and ihsaan (”excellent behaviour”) and hatred of them is KUFRUN (disbelief), NIFAAQUN (hypocrisy) and TUGHYAANUN (rebelliousness)”. We seek refuge with Allaah from this wickedness). The price for registering is £3 only and inshaa’Allaah this money will be reclaimed from the Student Union for our Islaamic activites/events/courses. Keep in mind that anyone who wishes to enrol for an Islaamic course with an organization like Tayyibun or MRDF (Sabeel Course), the City University Islamic Society provides its members a 30% discount (you save a loooot!) if they take part and anyone who has financial troubles (i.e. can’t pay anything…) but wants to seek the Knowledge of Islaam, then email cityisoc@googlemail.com and we will get back to you inshaa’Allaah.
- Click ‘Next’.
- [You have to pay the £3 online] Check that all details are correct.
- Check the ‘Online Payment (Credit/Debit Card)’ box.
- Fill in your REAL billing information.
- Click ’Complete’.
- Check all details again.
- Click ‘continue’.
- Select your card type (i.e. Visa, Maestro, Mastercard etc.)
- Enter your card number , cardholder details, valid from, expiry date, issue number (if applicable), security code (last three digits on the back of your card). Check the billing address etc. and correct them if necessary.
- Click ‘Proceed’.
- Again check all details.
- Click ‘Proceed’.
- Enter your name, date of birth, the three digit security code, expiry date and your email address.
- Click ‘Activate Now’.
- Enter your password. Choose a strong one (combination of numbers, letters etc.).
- That’s it you now should be a registered member of the City ISoc! Mashaa’Allaah! Just chill till the 31st and if we reach 300 inshaa’Allaah, you will be entered into the prize draw.

Salam Bros…
Tried to register couple of times but as soon as I pass all my ‘financial details to pay and stuff (basically the last little step) the page just errors…Help?…I’ll laugh if i’ve been charged like 20 times by now…Subhanallah…Actually I may cry…
wa ‘alaykumus salaam
Please don’t cry. May Allaah reward you for your efforts (and the £60 you gave to SU).
You can go down to the pod in the hub (opposite library) and report the issue to them and they will fix it for you inshaa’Allaah.
One other option would be to email us your login details (for the SU site) and we will pay for you and you can give the brothers the cash in hand. Try the pod first though… we are not very keen on losing £60.
wa-Allaahu a’lam.
cityisoc@gmail.com
Make sure to attend the course on wensday!

JZK WS
wa ‘alaykumus salaam wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh,
Well done for stating the obvious. [you wanna poke out my right eye now, right?]
Leave a comment with a heading ‘FOR I-SLAAM ONLY’ and it won’t get approved but i’ll have a read inshaa’Allaah.
[@ al-Kawni - Huge proposal... need to ponder over it... commercialization... as for the one you mention, i think it was accepted as a possibility. wallaahu a'lam. Stay patient inshaa'Allaah.]
[@ al-kawni... there is nothing wrong with putting the audio up... the entire dedicated section raises alarms... wallaahu a'lam... say the word and it's deleted; to post comments you will need an account]
[@ al-kawni... email cityisoc... and suggest a name for a section... NOT your username (thought a lot ahead and saw upcoming storms.. you either get it or you don't).
suggest something related to da'wah etc. ... rubbish example: "da'wah collection"...
all audio will be put up in the i-media section inshaa'Allaah... as for the article... we will see.
3) it will be deleted tomorrow inshaa'Allaah]
Assalam alaykum wr wb
Update on numbers?
Also, when other ppl who aren’t part of Uni sign up, do they sign up as ‘guest’ on the SU website?
wa ‘alaykumus salaam wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh
we will get it by the end of next week inshaa’Allaah.
Yes, non-students should sign up as ‘guests’.
For those that still haven’t signed up to the ISoc via the SU, although the deadline has gone, you can still sign up as we ‘Voice our opinions with our numbers insha’Allaah’. Please show your support insha’Allaah.
~*~* NEW UPDATE NOV 2009 ~*~*
30 STEPS DOWN TO 2 SIMPLE STEPS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please let all people who have not signed up for the isoc yet, to go to culsu website and register an account at least (free) you just need username and password…… and that’s it !!!
……………. KEEP ON READING –> –> –> –>
Then go to the pod (in the hub.. opposite library) and ask for a form of membership for isoc…. fill it in with the username you made from the culsu website and pay the 3 ponds in cash!!!!
Payments are now being accepted as cash only via this method (in the hub)
OUR AIM IS TO STILL HAVE 300 MEMBERS OFFICIALLY SO COME ON AND AT LEAST DO THIS AS IT IS UR DUTY AS A MUSLIM.
Jazakallah every 1 and THE same goes for the sisters..
ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE POST HERE AND I WILL REPLY ASAP
I assume this method applies to City Students only. Is there an easier method for non students aswel?
Also, is there a further update on membership no’s, it was 146 about 2/3 weeks back, does anyone have a new update?
can we also know how many people have registered to the ISoc so far? apologies if this has already been stated. wa jazakAllahu khair.
… … …
will post tomorrow inshaa’Allaah.
100 sisters (40 are non-students)
82 brothers (21 are non-students)
Engineers dominated the members list with 23 members and of them 15 Civil Engineers joining from all years, making it the course with most numbers… MashaaAllaah
May Allaah reward you all for making the effort to join.
Now you only have to register at the CULSU website (check the register icon below the login box) and then go to the “Pod” in the hub (opposite the library) and state that you want to become a member of the ISoc!
118 more members needed to reach 300 inshaaAllaah.
Technically the brothers at City are still beating the sisters… but only by ONE !
Walhamdulilaah. MashaAllaah to the sisters.
Does registering with the CULSU website and then going to the ‘pod’ only apply to City Students only? Is there an easier method for non students aswel?
Whoever knows any external that wants to join, then possibly the City student can go to the pod and get a form for the external, get them to fill it up and take the form and fee back to the pod and done.
We might check at the pod later on today about the possibility of this and post back inshaaAllaah.
waAllaahu a’lam
Some people at the pod were unsure if externals could even register for membership !
… will email Tom inshaa’Allaah about what externals can do.
Any news from Tom about externals signing up?
waiting for a reply.
The Islamic society can not be selected when trying to purchase it when signing up. Can this please be dealt with inshaAllaah.
JazakAllaahu Khair.
Maybe we reached maximum… will check the pod tomorrow inshaaAllaah.
Ask the person to try signing up again…
It still doesn’t work. Wallaahu A’lam, but this has been a problem for sometime now.
will get back tomorrow inshaaAllaah
(+ the external thing mentioned above … still didn’t get a reply)
@ Umm Eesaa
Only Alumnis can join and anyone who knows an alumni who wants to join, then take a form to them and get them to fill it. Also make sure that they register for an account at CULSU website first.
Then take the 3 pnds and the form to the pod to be approved.
