Assalaamu’alaikum y’all

So, i put ‘random’ into google, went 2 images, and ^^ is wot it chucked out =/ pretty random eh?! lol! dnt stare too long, kinda makes ur hed a bit fuzzy..or maybe thats jus me =/

anyhoo, i figured they need a thingy here that’s just for random comments/questions on random things..like sometimes you wanna ask a qu or maybe put somethin forth, but there’s no way u can unless u use a feed back form and then wait for a response, wich i s’pose is ok. bt then no1 else knws if a query has been raised b4 so, ah i duno, it makes sense 2 me that they shud hav an all-things-random [and related] post, so here it is =)

so it’s for genuine queries/questions etc. keep it City Isoc related. keep it halaal. keep it ppl-friendly. and please no rubbish. im sure they’ll get pretty annoyed at incessant whining about this that or the other. obviously, keep it relevant 2 ur isoc, ur isoc website n stuf insha’allah. and if it’s a pressin matter for the attention of ur ameer/ameera..then u shud no their contact details. THIS IS NOT AN OPPORTUNITY 4 SUM RANDOM JACK 2 CHAT BREEZE. if sumink like dat happens, then inevitably i’ll hav 2 take the blame coz im putin this up…

…and if i get blamed? u get hurt. consider urselves warned.

anyhoo, so my random & related things:

1) there’s no link in the did u know section..put somethin that’ll be as spoon-feeding like as poss, most ppl come out with a ‘this is long’ and then stop there =/

2) someone sed 2 me that there’s no info abt the isoc etc on the SU website, and that it wud be a gud idea 2 have a little bit up about urselves.

3) is it poss 2 get an adhaan thing on here?

4) cnt remembr, bt it was the one n only reasn i actualy strtd dis. musta bin important. =/

i hope u guys get drift insha’allah.

p.s - u can even post abt somethin u think shud go up on website, topics of article maybe [not original writing, bt somethin frm the learned ppl insha'allah]. eg: hello, my name is rosaline cuthbert. i think you should add more articles on the topic of sincerity in worship. u geddit rite?

anyhoo, i think it’d be of use. if the dictatorship disagrees, then of course, they can do as they please with this.

what’s with the lingo on here?! i mean i know most of you guys are from east london, and maybe thts how you all talk, (get me bruv… *rolls eyes*) but what is all this geddit, anyhoo and ‘chat breeze’….???

i-slaam if i find out this is your doing…!!! anyway, remember this from our dear saroya… http://cityisoc.com/71-whagwan-bruv/

    My my one doth apologise!

It appeareth one faileth to catereth for the posh non ‘East London’ [how very dare you?!] intellectuals in our midst! How willeth one ever compensateth for thiseth?!

    Sarcasm aside:

    ‘alaikum salaam wa rahmatullah [!]

you see, fellow slave of Allah - and may Allah elevate your rank, ameen - the endeavour here is to bridge the gap between an indviduals intelligence, and their day to day associations with their peers. So take me, your typical City University student, hailing from none other than the slums of East London, adding “innit” to everything I say, innit.

There are two sides to me: the ‘i think, therefore I am’ side, and the ‘yo yo ma bruvva wasss ga’in oawwn?!’ side. and depending on the context i find myself in, i change my style of speech in line with the people around me. now before you dismiss this and tell me i’m talking nonsense, or dare i say, ‘chattin breeze’, you should now that what i have just outlined above is none other than the ‘face theory’ in language; essentially stating that we have different ‘faces’ for different environments/people/situations.

now, when an influx of ‘east londoners’ are suddenly hit with the notion of an islamic society drilling home very ‘islaamic’ concepts and ideas, [the most basic being salaah 5x a day]; when such a people are suddenly struck with something like this, then there is a real need, in my humble opinion, for their ‘transition’ to be made easy. part of that ‘ease’ then, is to speak at a level where the language is full of ‘anyhoo’ and ‘breeze’, but the point being delivered is on another platform altogether.

language is but a means to an end - a tool by which we convey feelings, thoughts, ideas, emotions etc. If that can be achieved through both the ‘geddits’ and ‘anyhoos’, as well as more proper forms - then surely there’s no harm in floating between the two?

further - and this is just something you may care to give some thought to - does language ever really convey our thoughts, emotions etc? Or, at best, does it just echo what we wish to express, though never doing our inner feelings any justice? think about it - i don’t need a response.

    jazak’allahu khairan - i love discussing language!

    salaamu’alaikum

p.s - i dnt use ‘dhon’, or da’. have taken offence!
    p.p.s - NO OFFENCE - ABSOLUTELY NOOO OFFENCE TO fellow EAST LONDONERS - just being awkward coz i can - i weren’t attacking/insulting no1. dnt be =( please..sorry =/

Can we have the CW stuff (poster etc.) as the 1st post instead of the competition answers?

  9. oneummah Says:

    As Salaam Alaikum,

I just wondered if it is possible to put on the website an islamic calender section, or the islamic date expliccitly on the home page in order to allow users of the islamic date and since Dhul Hijjah is upcoming it would be beneficial to allow users to know when the day of arafaah, and the first 9 days are in order to uphold the practice of fasting on these days and inshallah a calendar would also remind people of the 13,14,15th of the month in order to fast on those days as well. Inshallah a detailed calendar section would insh’Allah also educate people of significant days in islam.

    Jazakallah Khairun

  10. wa ‘alaykumus salaam wa rahmatullaahi wa barkaatuh,

a few months ago we had a widget on the sidebar notifying people to fast on the ayyam al-beed etc.

We will bring it in for the next month inshaa’Allaah.

    * R * A * N * D * O * M * !

Anyone know of or would like to recommend or suggest any good active Islamic websites/forums - enjoyable, beneficial and entertaining?!

    Jazakallahu khairan!

    *R*A*N*D*O*M*
    1) Jazakallahu khairan to whoever put the nice reminder video (at the side of the webpage) of the story of the Muslimah and the doctor! Alhamdulillah..

    -+-+-

    2) Also, I like the new Islamic quote and Asma-ul-Husna graphicy thing at the side! Masha’Allah. The ‘not-so-dumb’ facts have gone I see, (er.. alhamdulillah!) they were interesting but at times perhaps a bit ‘oops!’ for an Islamic site I thought! The other day I read something which I really didn’t wanna know!
    No offence!
I assume they just came randomly and hence could not be checked/scanned first.

    -+-

    3) Also, I have a little request: is it possible to have the reply-posts, numbered? As in have the reply number next to the replier/replyee?
Sometimes when there are a significant amount of replies it can get confusing how many one has actually read and where new replies start from, (e.g the 153 replies on the ‘Islamophobic Attacks on Campus’ post.)
    So, is it possible?

    -+-

    4) Another little request, is it possible to have the English translation next to the ‘Arabic word of the day?

    5) By the way.. is this site a wordpress template or was it designed by ISoccers? Just curious… I like it, masha’Allah.

    Jazakumallahu khairan.

  15. 3) Will look into it inshaaAllaah.

    4) This is not an ISoc programme, if we find another similar widget with translation, will replace it inshaaAllaah.

    5) WP template.

    Thank you for your feedbacks

    BaarakAllaahu feek

  16. admin Says:

SubhaanaAllaah! Am I having a nightmare or can I actually see a Hijaabee on the right hand side of the website?

  17. it’s a little girl; don’t get too happy.

  18. Nobody.. Says:

    Assalamu’alaikum
Jazakallah khairan for your swiftness and for the new ‘Arabic word thing.

    -+-

    1) I don’t mean to be a nuisance… but I just thought… would it be possible to have an archive? As in, all the posts that were posted in (for exmpl.) January 2008 in one easy batch and all posts posted in February 2008 and so on for all the months since this website started? You know like how other blogs have archives so that posts can be easily accesible in order they were posted, from the old to the new? It would make it easier to access (many of the beneficial -masha’Allah) older posts which, at the moment, can be difficult to locate as there is nothing to go by, such as month/year of posting…

    -+-

    2) ERm… I’m a tad hesitant to ask and I mean no offence but, is it possible for the little girl hijaabi to be replaced with a man or just something else instead?? [So some of our brothers can be saved from the nightmares insha'Allah and our sisters can be spared from the jokes... !?] If it’s not replaceable then ok.

Please don’t get offended or anything!
    I come in peace!

    Barakallahu feekum.

  19. your poetic post is schedueled to be automatically published on wednesday at 11pm inshaaAllaah…

    JazaakAllaahu khairan

  21. you’d love that wouldn’t you.

  22. -sp- Says:

    Assalam alaykum wr wb

Why don’t we just leave the lil muslim(ah) altogether and just settle for the ’sticky note’ widget (or anything else) that’s available on that site?..hopefully less controversial..(but if you wnt to stick to the dood, it’d look better with a hat on..)

    Just my 2p’s worth

    wa’alaykum asssalam wr wb

  23. admin Says:

    Dood = milk
    Dude = Brother

  24. how do you like this one admin?

  25. OMG OMG OMG amina wadood is comin ! ! ?

the animation brings “life” to the site… if you know what i mean… it makes the site cooool.

maybe i will use something else like the sticky as suggested earlier inshaaAllaah…

  26. Nobody.. Says:

    Assalamu’alaikum,
    1) I agree with the latest plain looking calender thing, masha’Allah this one looks nice and sophisticated…
    2) I also like the new orange-waving-plastacine-like-figure thing at the top.
    …………. 3) I am confused about the ‘poetic post’… perhaps it’s just a r..a..n..d..o..m comment….

  27. Al-Gujj Says:

    “Dood = milk
    Dude = Brother”

    LOL!!!

  28. admin Says:

  29. Al-Gujj Says:

just a small humble request that you please make du’aa for my brother insha’allah - his hawk died today. inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’oon.

i know to many of you that wouldn’t mean much, but to us it means a lot, especially him - he’s very attached to his pets. masha’allah tabarak’allah. may allah have mercy on him and grant him patience through this trial. may allah make khan from amongst the birds of paradise, ameen.

    jazakumullahu khairan
    salaamu’alaikum

p.s. sorry i didn’t know where to put this. thanks.

  33. Umm Idrees Says:

    Bismillaah.

  34. bint cd maker Says:

at first i thought you meant his ‘bird’ died y’anee. just tell your brother to get a life!!!

  35. =? Says:

    bismillahir rahmaanir raheem

sorry i couldn’t find the relevant post but i was thinking in terms of our little sister who’s currently battling for life, perhaps it would be nice if some of the brothers and sisters of the university could go see her? the post said she’s somewhere in london right? we could maybe visit, see if her family - or whoever it is looking after her - need any sort of help/assistance etc? maybe make a cd of recitation and leave it for them to play her..it helps soothe the afflicted person.

i understand she’s in a coma right? someone very dear to me used to say, ‘your asking or visting [the sick person] doesn’t cure them, but maybe it’ll make them feel better.’ it’s true. even in a coma or whatever state they’re in, it does make a difference - trust me.

anyhow, something to mull over perhaps. the believers are each others backbones, strong and supportive in times of need.

    and allah knows best.
    salaam folks
