Basically, I will start off with a few… you can add some more?

1) “English Channel Scrolls”. Collect all your formulas onto one piece of A3 paper. You may hang it on your wall, or just open it up whenever need be and take a peek! It may be useful to write down any difficult questions you encounter onto the same formula sheet, along with their solutions. So every time you take a look at that formula sheet, your eye glances over the difficult things as well. Just remember to memorize all your formulas, even the ones that “they” give you in the back of the paper.

2) “Hifdh QA”. Make questions and answers out of everything from the lecturer’s notes. Then memorize all the questions along with their answers. It will have to be intense memorizing. Memorize a few questions, then cover them up and answer them by just looking at the questions. Then memorize another bunch. Cover them up and answer them all from the beginning and continue in that manner. Change the question types to prevent you from getting bored… (i.e. Discuss… What is… Comment on… etc.). Use lined A4 sheets for these.

Example…

Q11) Discuss the three different types of complaints.
A11) Complaining to creation about Allaah. This is the doing of the fool. Complaining to Allaah about the creation. This guy is getting there. Complaining to Allaah about oneself. This guy hit the jackpot!

3) “Tipsy”. Once you attempted past exam papers, take a look at where you made mistakes (i.e. added something instead of multiplying). Then write this down on a paper, reminding you of what to do in such a situation. Or maybe you always forget to put the units in after your calculations, then write this down on that paper. The purpose of this paper is to look over it right before your exam and remind you of every single mistake you are bound to make and inshaa’Allaah you can avoid them in that exam!

4) “Rhythm n Rhymes”. Books after books of Islaamic Knowledge were written in the form of poetry to make it easy for the students to memorize. Maybe it’s worth writing out your notes in poetry form as well, with rhymes? Then memorize the poem! [Alternative to #2]

5) “Skavenjaa”. Go through all of the past exam papers. Take note of all the theory questions and see if they are repetitive. Then go to “shaikh google” and seek out the answers, unless you have the answers in your notes or something. Compile all of these and memorize, giving priority to those that are seen to occur frequently; at the same time keep an eye out for the sly one that hardly ever comes up and only when you are sitting the exam it shows up! QaddarAllaahu wa maashaa’Allaahu fa’al.

6) “Silly Goose”. Remember different modules will require different “tactics”. Not every module will do with a QA and lines of poetry and they may require actual understanding of the contents. Also different things work for different people, so be creative, come up with your own techniques…

7) “Don’t do this”. Sometimes I tend to draw stuff on my notes… or graffiti… otherwise it’s just a dull piece of paper. Maybe help you concentrate more or distract you? Don’t know how your head works…

8.a) “The Map”

Assalamu Alaikum,

You can also make a mindmap. Take a piece of a A4 paper make a mindmap of the whole book/module that you are studying.

8.b) “Homeless”

Make the library your new home…and if your one of those who haven’t found it yet, it’s in the main building opposite the hub…!

[ -sp- ]

8.c) “Too Many Things”

organise what your going to do in this holiday

set targets of what you are going to complete revision on each week,

make a routine so for example every day for this amount of hours and iam going to go over this many lectures this is so you can let people know your not going to be free during these times

revision has to then be intense, make notes, test yourseleves and you know how and because your probably going to forget what you’ve learnt by the next day or maybe not but you should go over what you did the previous day before you start today’s revision.

But you should know how to revise best n the hard part is just getting on with it , ask Allah s.w.t for help so that he makes it easy for you and the inshAllah you will succeed.

8.d) “The Teknik”

There is also the Pomodoro Technique if you want reasonable and practical intense focus sessions.

8.e) “A Lot More Things”

Have a time table and yes we know we never stick to them, but try to make a realisitic timetable.

Everyone is different, so people have different ways to understand and remember things!! Learn yourself first!! e.g visual memory/sytematical/ short term memory

If using colours help, then use them!!! e.g in red is this formula/or explanation/theory etc

Write your notes, and continue to summarise them, until you have all the important stuff condensed onto 1/2 pages…

And yes… if you do go to the library.. dont go to sleep/day dream etc!! Try to actually do some work!!

Try to utilise the morning time, this is the best time to do your dunya things, as the Prophet (Peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) made du’aa for him ummah for this time…

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) asked his Lord to bless his ummah in the mornings, as is reported in the hadeeth of Sakhr al-Ghaamidi, who said: “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “O Allaah, bless my ummah in the mornings.’ Whenever he sent out troops or an army, he would send them at the beginning of the day.’” Sakhr was a trader, and he used to send out his caravans at the beginning of the day, and he did well as a result and made money.” (Reported by Abu Dawood, al-Tirmidhi and Ibn Maajah, with an isnaad in which there is some jahaalah (i.e., one narrator is unknown); corroborating evidence is to be found in a hadeeth narrated by ‘Ali, Ibn ‘Umar, Ibn ‘Abbaas, Ibn Mas’ood and others, may Allaah be pleased with them all.)

Seek forgiveness from your sins!!

Do more good deeds/ dont close the world off (as some like to do) because you have exams, be nice to your parents/siblings etc and give others their rights, and Allaah will Help you!

8.f) “as-Salaah ! as-Salaah !”

Asalaamu Alaikum,

May seem like an obvious one but no harm in sharing it anyway. Try basing your revision around prayer times, insha’Allah. It is a good way of getting a certain amount of revision done within a certain time frame and that way you can set certain targets to achieve betweeen say Zuhr and Asr and then between Asr and Maghrib and so forth, and that way you will maintain your ibadaah and get your revision done insha’Allah.

May Allah make us successful in this life and the hereafter, ameen

8.g) “Naseehah adh-Dhahabiyyah”

‘Umar said: “Do not put off today’s work until tomorrow, lest work accumulate and you achieve nothing.”
(’Umar Ibn Al-Khattab [Radia-Allahu 'Anhu - "May Allah be pleased with him] His Life & Times vol.2 p.79 Dr. ‘Ali M. as-Sallabi)

Exams are stressful for all and most people revising have their own strategies to beat the stress.

Recently i won National Teaching Award organised by The HEA’s Engineering Subject Centre for my work in helping my students fight exam stress by collaborating on my exam revosision site Examopedia UK.

The success of the site for the past three years has encouraged me to launch my site for any student worldwide and see it’s impact.

I invite one and all to benefit from my site: http://edublend.blogspot.com/2009/12/examopedia-for-all-students.html

    See link for details.

    All the best,
