I begin with the Name of Allaah, the most Merciful, the One Who bestows His Mercy

Words to be Written in Gold

When debating and proving the right of Allaah and the Prophethood of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) to Christians, Jews and those who oppose Islaam, the Companions of the Prophet (may Allaah be pleased with them) and the early righteous generations of Muslims (may Allaah have mercy upon them) always adhered to core principles; using only the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of His Messenger. Never did they add anything to the evidence of the Qur’aan or the Sunnah; they did not resort to arguments or lay down philosophical principles, nor did they consume their time in preparing lengthy refutations or debates against those that wrote against them. That was because they knew that doing so would provoke trouble and cause confusion and only further strengthen the oppositions argument by giving it the right to refute. Rather they understood that, “Whoever is not convinced by the evidence of the Qur’aan and Sunnah will not be convinced by anything other than what they shall see at the time of death, for there is no proof after the proof of Allaah and His Messenger.”

Over the past two years, the Islamic Society of City University has received numerous verbal and written attacks from bloggers, the odd newspaper journalists, right-wing think tanks, self-professed neoconservatives who are hell-bent on demonising all Muslims, a few University staff members (although the vast majority have been extremely kind, supportive and helpful), and our very own “friends” from the City Inquirer who produced an incredibly flawed report regarding the Islamic Society and its speakers. Some of these individuals and groups have mocked the running of the Islamic Society, its beliefs, its principles and its creed, whereas others have personally slandered the Islamic Society President and his vice, hoping thereby to produce some sort of crazy reaction that would only bring harm upon the Islamic Society in both the short and long term. However, the Islamic Society remain dignified in its response, following the etiquettes of the Sahaabah (may Allaah be pleased with them) and the Salaf al-Saaliheen (may Allaah have mercy upon them) in quoting only the following:

Allaah says:

“And when they (the believers) hear Al-Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk from the disbelievers), they withdraw from it and say: ‘To us our deeds, and to you your deeds. Peace be to you. We seek not (the way of) the ignorant’”

[Surah al-Qasas 28:55]

The evil vain talk that we read and hear from the groups that verbally attack the Islamic Society is undoubtedly a sign of their hate towards a religion of truth and strength. They envy the state of peace and contentment that envelopes the hearts, souls and lives of every practicing Muslim. They perceive our devotion, submission and worship of Allaah as a threat to their way of life, when in reality our religion will only liberate them and grant them the peace and security their hearts yearn for. They become angry and hurt when their very own run towards the light of Islaam, embracing it in their numbers, yet, they know not that Islaam enables one to attain Paradise as a result. And so, unfortunately they result to slander, false and evil talk, hoping that the Islamic Society act and say something without thinking about the consequence of their statements and actions. Little do they know, that the Muslim is from a blessed nation of understanding; the slaves of the Most Merciful. We are watched over by Allaah, Who protects us from their plots and plans. Thus, we address their ignorance by saying “To us our deeds, and to you your deeds.” For indeed, each of us will be requited for his deeds that he did by himself, and he will not bear anything of the burden of another. We are innocent from their talk of falsehood and are concerned only with perfecting and acquiring more noble, praiseworthy good deeds. Allaah says:

“So whosoever does good equal to the weight of an atom (or a small ant), shall see it. And whosoever does evil equal to the weight of an atom (or a small ant), shall see it.”

[Surah al-Zalzalah 99:7-8]

Every man will regret his time spent in this life where he wasted the opportunity to gather the only thing that will save him from the wrath of Allaah; good and noble deeds. This is our only objective and our only concern; to gather as many sincere, noble, good deeds as possible, seeking thereby the pleasure of Allaah. How unfortunate is it that theirs is something else.

“Peace be to you” we say to them, for they will not hear anything from us but good, and we will not address them as their ignorance deserves. Even if they allow themselves to indulge in this rotten talk, we declare ourselves to be above it and we protect ourselves from indulging in it, for “We seek not (the way of) the ignorant’” in any sense.

However, we would like to let them know that there lies a great Day before us, a Day when Allaah will resurrect mankind and question them regarding every saying they uttered and every action they carried out. This is the Day of Recompense, the Day of Judgement, the Day of Standing before the Lord of the Heavens and the Earth with ones deeds before him. A Day where Allaah will judge with justice, and grant every person exactly what they deserve. Be careful, O those who slander the Muslims, because we fear for you a terrible punishment in the next life. Allaah says:

“Verily, (during the worldly life) those who committed crimes (the disbelievers) used to laugh at those who believed. And whenever they passed by them, used to wink one to another (in mockery). And when they returned to their own people, they would return jesting. And when they saw them, they said: “Verily, these have indeed gone astray!” But they (disbelievers, sinners) had not been sent as watchers over them (the believers). But this Day (the Day of Resurrection) those who believe will laugh at the disbelievers. On (high) thrones, looking (at all things). Are not the disbelievers paid (fully) for what they used to do?”

[Surah al-Mutaffifeen 83:29-36]

Let the ones who verbally slander the Muslims know, that the life of this world does not end at death. No, rather this life is only a test for the next, which begins at the sight of the angel of death. The ultimate destination for every man and woman is either Paradise or Hell, with only his deeds, his statements and actions helping and aiding his cause to Paradise or leading him to the doom and gloom of Hell. As Allaah highlights above, although the Muslims will only utter words of peace when they hear falsehood, the ultimate end, the destination after death for those who mock and laugh at the religion of Islaam, and those who slander the Muslims is indeed a painful torment. If they persist in their falsehood and evil talk, then they should prepare themselves and expect that after they die, they will be raised before Allaah on a Day when every parent will run from their children, when the children will run from their parents, when the mother who is nursing will abandon her child, and when the pregnant woman will abort. This is the Day of Judgement, when every person will only be concerned about themselves, such a terrible day this is. Human beings will act as if they were in a drunken state (i.e. they will fall into a swoon) and a state of delirium, although they will not actually be drunk. They will be terrified and paralysed out of fear and trauma for the crimes they have committed in this life. So let it be known to the people who slander and mock the Muslims, that they will indeed be judged by Allaah on a Day of fear, trauma and horror. And since Allaah is Just, and the Greatest of Judges, He, the Exalted will permit the very people that they mocked and laughed at in this world, the Muslims, to mock and laugh at them in the next world. Except only, the mockery and the laughter of the next life will last for eternity, with the Muslims reclining on high lofty thrones as Allaah punishes the slanderers with the ever-lasting punishment of the Fire of Hell. This is what Allaah says. This is the truth. So we urge them to think twice, when mocking and slandering the religion of Islaam.

To conclude, we call our bloggers, our newspaper journalists, our right-wing think tanks, the self-professed neoconservatives, our fellow University staff members, and our colleagues from the City Inquirer to a way of life for all types of people from whatever race or background they may be. A call to a religion of truth, an ideology of inner and outer peace, and a system of conduct that liberates hearts and minds. A way that is in essence the same message and guidance, which was revealed to all the previous Messengers. A way of life based upon submitting to Allaah, Whom is One, by a form of submission, which generates peace and obedience, hope and tranquillity. For it is only in submitting to Allaah’s Will that human beings gain peace and tranquillity in their hearts, minds, souls and lives. Thus, we call you all to the religion of our father Adam, and his wife Eve, the religion of the Prophets and Messengers Noah, Lot, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, John, David, Solomon, Moses, Jesus the son of Mary, Ismael and Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon them all). The religion of Allaah; al-Islaam. So turn to Him, the Magnificent, the Majestic, the Exalted, the Great and the one Who is High above all things, with your hands open, your hearts at ease and your minds at rest, and return to the state of purity, peace, obedience and submission that you were once born in, to which all Messengers and Prophets of Allaah invited us to. We urge you to accept this call and accept this invite, and you will attain the Mercy of your Lord with all your sins being forgiven, His utmost pleasure and an ever-lasting reward of Paradise; gardens under which rivers of honey, milk, wine and water flow, palaces made out of pearls, gold and silver; everything that the heart desires. But if you do not accept this call and this invite, then although we will continue treating you with good will, uttering words of peace and showing you respect, we do however warn you of a terrible final destination in the next life, the life after death, a life of a severe and painful punishment, a humiliating torment, the ever-lasting curse of your Creator, and the blazing Fire whose fuel is disbelieving men, women and stones. Such is the end for those who do not embrace the religion of Islaam.

This is our reply, these are our statements; words to be written in gold, the words of Allaah, the Supreme.

And may Allaah send peace and blessings upon His slave and the seal of the Prophets and Messengers, Muhammad the son of ‘Abdullaah.
