Criteria for determining what is Right

by Sheikh Salman al-Oadah

Do methodologically sound criteria exist for determining what is correct and what is in error? They certainly do. Those criteria are clear and precise, and we shall be discussing some of them.

One: The Religious Criterion

This criterion is established upon three sources:

1. The Qur’ân. Allah says: “Lo! those who disbelieve in the Reminder when it cometh unto them (are guilty), for lo! it is an unassailable Scripture. Falsehood cannot come at it from before it or from behind it. (It is) a revelation from the Wise, the Owner of Praise.” [Sûrah Fussilat: 41-42]

The Qur’ân is absolutely certain in its authenticity. This is a point upon which all Muslims unanimously agree.

Friday Khutbah: Naseehah (Advice)

by A R Siddiqui 22nd August 2003

And among His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the variations in your languages and your colours, verily in that are signs for those who know. (al-Rum 30: 22)

Muslims in Britain have come from different parts of the Muslim world. They have come with some specific purpose in view either acquiring education and skills, or obtaining better employment or seeking asylum from oppressive regimes. They came with the intention of staying here for a short period of time and then returning back home and many did go back. On the other hand, a large majority stayed behind, brought their families over and settled here. Now there is a new generation of Muslims, who are born and educated here. Muslims with the various other communities are now part of a multi-faith and multi-cultural society. However, their presence in a non-Muslim country raises many problems. They have come from significantly different cultural and religious societies. The problem of settling in different cultural environment has yet to be solved.

It is a Third of The Qur’aan - “Qul Huwa Allaahu Ahad!”

Adapted from Sheikh Muhammad b. `Abd Allah al-Qannâs article

Qutaadah ibn al-Nu’maan (may Allaah be pleased with him) said that a man stayed up to worship Allaah at the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) just before dawn and recited:

“Qul huwa Allaahu ahad,” but did not recite anything else.

Sha’ban: The Neglected Month

By Abu Eesa

One would agree that from the most unfortunate things possible is to be the rightful recipient of some good news – a present maybe, a gift of money, a bequest etc – but then one remains unaware of this fact, or doesn’t pay attention to all the phone calls informing him of such glad tidings.

So there’s your present waiting for you, and you’re not really aware to its full worth or value – no-one else is going to claim it on your behalf and if you knew its real significance, you’d never leave it to waste!

Humility in Prayer by Imaam Ahmad

by Imaam Ahmad bin Hanbal

Imâm Ahmad bin Hanbal - rahimahullah - said: You should know - may Allâh have mercy upon you - that when the slave [of Allâh] leaves his house to go to the mosque, that he is going to face Allâh, the Irresistible, the One, the Omnipotent, the Exalted in Might, the Oft-forgiving, in the knowledge that nothing is hidden from Allâh, wherever it might be, and that nothing is hidden from Allâh and that even something as small as a mustard seed is not concealed from Him, nor even something smaller, nor larger - in the seven earths or the seven heavens, in the seven seas or the lofty mountains, fixed and firm. And verily, the mosque to which he comes is one of the Houses of Allâh. He desires only Allâh and he sets out to one of Allâh’s Houses, which:

The Universe in Perspective

by Some Brother/Sister off the Internet

This is really fascinating - I’ve never really given this any thought whatsoever, but it’s rather dazzling to see it presented this way.

I certainly thought this was enlightening. Didn’t even realize we knew much beyond our sun

It’s a big universe.

Antares is the 15th brightest star in the sky.

It is more than 1000 light years away.

The universe is so vast it is not comprehensible by the human mind. It would be like an ant trying to understand the wonder of the internet. It can’t be done.

Blessed be He Who hath placed in the heaven mansions of the stars, and hath placed therein a great lamp and a moon giving light!

Surah 25. Al-Furqan, Ayah 61

Lo! your Lord is Allah Who created the heavens and the earth in six Days, then mounted He the Throne. He covereth the night with the day, which is in haste to follow it, and hath made the sun and the moon and the stars subservient by His command. His verily is all creation and commandment Blessed be Allah, the Lord of the Worlds!

Surah 7. Al-A’raf, Ayah 54

Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?

Surah 55. Ar-Rahman
