Before reading the contents on Islaam, one must be familiar with certain aspects and get rid off any bias or information they received from different people. Often times people, even some Muslims, speak out of whims and desires and attribute things to Islaam which has no basis in it. Many of the following will be further discussed in detail.

1) Check the evidences.

Do not accept anything attributed to any religion, unless provided with evidence from authentic sources of that religion.

“… Say, “Bring forth your proofs, if you are truthful.”
[Al Qur’aan – Soorah an-Naml (027:064)]

2) Sources of Islaam.

Islaamic practices are based on authentic evidences from the Qur’aan and the Sunnaah (teachings and practices of the messenger of Allaah (saw)). These were recorded and preserved letter for letter from the beginning of Islaam.

“… Say (O Muhammad): “I but follow what is revealed to me from my Lord. This (the Qur’aan) is nothing but evidences from your Lord, and a guidance and a mercy for a people who believe.”
[Al Qur’aan – Soorah al-A’raaf (007:203)]

“O you who believe! Obey Allaah and obey the Messenger (Muhammad SAW), and those of you (Muslims) who are in authority. (And) if you differ in anything amongst yourselves, refer it to Allaah and His Messenger (SAW), if you believe in Allaah and in the Last Day. That is better and more suitable for final determination.”
[Al Qur’aan – Soorah an-Nisaa’ (004:059)]

“It is not right to make one Muslim scholar, let alone anyone else, the sole source of what is true and correct, in the sense that one takes what he says as being true and what goes against that as being false. Rather the truth is that which is in accordance with the Qur’aan and Sunnaah, no matter who says it, and what goes against the Qur’aan and Sunnaah should be ignored and avoided, even if it is said by ‘Abd al-Qaadir al-Jilaani, Maalik, al-Shaafa’i, Ahmad or anyone else.”
[Fataawa Ibn Ibraaheem, 1/276, 109]

3) Complete and Perfect.

Islaam is a complete religion based on evidences. No additions can be made to it with regards to worship (even though many “Muslims” do so – deviants). In Islaam there are no “hidden” laws yet to be revealed, as some deviants claim.

“… This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islaam as your religion.”
[Al Qur’aan – Soorah al-Maa’idah (005:003)]

4) Rejection of innovations.

Practices of “Muslims” that are not based on the Qur’aan and Sunnaah, then these are to be rejected. Islaam is based on evidences and not whims and desires.

“It is narrated on the authority of the Mother of the Believers, Umm ‘Abdullah ‘Aishah (ra) that the Messenger of Allah (saw) said:
“Whosoever introduces into this affair of ours (i.e. into Islaam) something that does not belong to it, it is to be rejected.”

[Bukhari & Muslim]

5) Individuals practices.

Individuals and their actions (religious practices and other acts) do not represent Islaam, unless they provide evidence for it from the Qur’aan and Sunnaah.

“… (And) if you differ in anything amongst yourselves, refer it to Allaah and His Messenger (SAW), if you believe in Allaah and in the Last Day. That is better and more suitable for final determination.”
[Al Qur’aan – Soorah an-Nisaa’ (004:059)]

6) False claimants.

TV Documentaries made on Islaam (for and against) capture a variety of people claiming to be Muslims (righteous and deviants). This results in confusion of the masses with regards to exact beliefs of the Muslims.

“And who does more wrong than the one who invents a lie against Allaah, while he is being invited to Islaam? And Allaah guides not the people who are Zaalimoon (polytheists, wrong-doers and disbelievers) folk.
They intend to put out the Light of Allaah (i.e. the religion of Islaam, this Qur’aan, and Prophet Muhammad SAW) with their mouths. But Allaah will complete His Light even though the disbelievers hate (it).”

[Al Qur’aan – Soorah as-Saff (061:007-008)]

7) No Ifs and No Buts.

Creed, ideology, and Islaamic rules (based on sources) are obligatory to be followed. Muslims hear and obey and there are no ifs and no buts. These are not up for open discussion such that they can be modified to suit peoples whims and desires.

“The only saying of the faithful believers, when they are called to Allaah (His Words, the Qur’aan) and His Messenger (SAW), to judge between them, is that they say: “We hear and we obey.” And such are the prosperous ones (who will live forever in Paradise).”
[Al Qur’aan – Soorah an-Noor (024:051)]

8) The Arab Poet said…

“If claims are not supported by proof, they are used only by the fools as evidence.”
[Al-Shaykh Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Wahhaab fi Mar’aat al-Sharq wa’l- Gharb, p. 240]
